Badger Boys State
Click on the Badger Boys State link above for more information.
Approximately 870 young men from every part of Wisconsin participate in Badger Boys State in June. Upon arrival at the Ripon College campus, they will be grouped into cities and counties which will form a “51st state.” For eight days, the citizens of this “new state” will carry out all the main functions of city, county, and state government using basic laws and fundamental procedures of the State of Wisconsin as their guide. The program is designed to teach its “citizens” that the American form of government is stronger and more vital in today’s world than ever before.
The boys themselves will elect their own municipal, county and state officials. As alderman or county supervisors, they will frame, present and pass their own ordinances and laws, while their own police and sheriffs will enforce them. As attorneys, they will prosecute or defend. As judges, hear cases in their own courts. Through this program, these leaders of the future should develop a sense of individual obligation to the community, state and nation.
The American Legion Post 243 in Plymouth sponsors and covers all expenses for one PHS male student for participation in this leadership opportunity. Badger Boys State is open to high school junior boy students only.
Interested students must complete a PHS Leadership Opportunity Application for consideration. Due December 1, 2017.

The entire delegation will become a fifty-first state and will function according to the laws of the State of Wisconsin. Each day will focus on the various aspects of state government. Citizens "learn by doing" as they function on city, county and state levels by electing officials in the manner prescribed by regular election procedures and conducting business on those levels. Every girl is encouraged to participate in some level of the governmental process. ALABGS should not be confused with recreational or sport programs. ALABGS government and leadership conference is designed to educate the citizen on the function of government. Each citizen has been selected by her school and the local Unit.
